  • Doing some repetitive work and need a distraction: what are your top 5 movies?

Wasn't Tom Hiddleston the night manager? Hugh Laurie played Richard Roper, but I forget who that was in the series.

Lisa B. Yes, sorry, Laurie starred as Roper the bad guy who gets his comeuppance at the end. (It was a long time ago.)

I've got some more delectable period drama fare for you:

    • The Agatha Christie films starring David Suchet as Hercule Poirot and Geraldine McEwan as Miss Marple
    • An Inspector Calls (2015 film)
    • To the Manor Born (TV)
    • perennial TV favourites Murder She Wrote, Magnum, P. I; The Streets of San Francisco, Hart to Hart, Remington Steele,
and of course (!) the ever wonderful Billy Wilder film 'Some Like It Hot'!
(Okay, I'll stop here for now.)

anovikov Ha, indeed. I didn't mean that I watch these movies while working, but made this post to look at people's fun answers during my breaks. I actually have a hard time watching anything while working. But I'm enjoying these answers so far

Lisa B. There's a remake of The Night Manager on Netflix?? probably terrible.. I only watched the 2016 show for the cast and ended up loving it. Olivia Colman was in it too I remember

Eve Almost 20years?? That's probably wise...As I have definitely wasted money and time watching some really terrible movies from the last two decades

Yes, those are great. I also subscribe to BritBox and Acorn, which only stream series & films from the U.K. Scotland, Ireland, etc. So much better than most American garbage.

        Love Olivia Coleman!

Turns out it's called "The Night Agent" on Netflix. Not sure if it's the same plot as the original.

Lisa B. Have you watched the show The Americans? Something about your list made me think it might be something you would enjoy.

          Mark

Yes, The Americans is a great series! Did you watch all the seasons?

I still think Homeland is the most brilliant series in this genre.

Lisa B. I haven't watched Homeland but it is on my list for the next "I have nothing else I have to watch"

Right I am watching The Pitt. I was an ER watcher way back in the day and this show is absolutely riveting for me.

              Mark

I added The Pitt to my list earlier today. I've been hearing great things about it.

Lisa B. The episode they released yesterday I swear was five minutes long, it was just so intense. I was upset that it was over. Definitely a very "real" look at an ER but what makes the show is not blood but the characters. Although, on reddit I heard it referred to as "excellence porn" where you derive pleasure at watching people doing amazing things, even when some of them are mistakes.

That sounds perfect because I can't watch gory medical shows, but this sounds more character focused. And it has a super high 8.6 rating on IMDB!

"Excellence porn" would also describe the series, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

Lisa B. Hmm, there is a lot of gore, it's pretty graphic overall.

                      Mark

Oh, well. Sounds like it's still worth watching. I'll just use the gory scenes for snack breaks.
