Translator but in the past I have managed remote teams (Customer Service and Data Processing) and even further back I was in International Sales and Sales Management.

I burnt out and left the corporate world and tried different things for a few years before getting into freelancing.

Ravi You as well, my friend. Glad we can stay in touch!

20 years in the HR and Recruitment niche. Wrapped up corporate life after 18 years with the same company; exit title: HR Ops Director. I decided to start my consultancy, which is doing very well, and I began my UW journey 2 years ago. I am Russian, originally from Kazakhstan, and have been living in Italy for the past 11 years.

Me—graphic design/ marketing & strategy/ copywriting for startups and small–medium businesses, under the umbrella of full-service Experience Design. About 18 years self-employed in this capacity; before that I worked as an interior designer (who occasionally got asked to work on the graphic and marketing end of things for clients). Once upon a time UW seemed like a really great arrow to add to my quiver... but lately, it just makes me quiver.

Ever seeking the bright side and the best win-win opportunities!

Kelly_E I think I remember you from back in the day but different picture. I just read your last post on the forum sounds like UW is not working for you anymore. I am still on the fence about it. I did not need it for a period of time but now I find I need it and it has been slow but not horrible.

Mark Hm, I think this has always been my pic on the UW community.

Anyway—I'd love to get UW back to "not horrible." And I don't rule it out—it's still a giant in freelancing. But so much has changed over the last couple of years... I dunno. Keeping my eyes open!

      • Mark replied to this.

I've worked corporate jobs for over 15 years out of which majority was in the services industry in UAE, USA, and Pakistan. I have done customer service jobs, a commercial executive role, worked in real estate, worked in merchant acquisition at a bank, and worked for BPO companies and call centers, and also worked as a reservation agent in San Francisco for about 6 months at Hornblower Cruises & Events (Alcatraz Tours). And then I transitioned into full-time freelancing in 2021.

I did not have a clear idea of what field I wanted to go into, and my contracts were for tasks like: customer service, operations coordinator, data entry, lead generation, transcription, sales, executive assistance, and more nuanced data work.

For the past 2 years though I have been solely contracted by a long-term client in data analysis work.

I'm a 2D animator, mainly cut out in Animate.
I also work with Illustrator and redraw and color in Photoshop.
I've been doing this since I started working, first in design companies and then as a freelancer for years.
I don't know if you've heard of this, but I started doing animation with AMIGA.

MariaT Motion designer with a filmmaking & editing background here. I have the utmost respect for old-school computer animation skills. Amiga was such a nice system...

human Yes, I used it for a while, the company was updating it often. We made a whole educational series with it. It was broadcast in a lot of countries.
It had some really good programs. I even managed to do 3D animation. Now I wouldn't even think of trying it :)

MariaT many eons ago there was a computer shop near where I lived that did a lot of weird niche things and somehow they kind of became a half-baked animation studio using Amigas. They would scour the planet for them (pretty sure this was at best early days of eBay). They also fixed and sold them. They also did things like transfer 8mm to VHS.
Years before that though I had a friend who had a C64 then jumped to the Amiga. This was all about video games. I had a Tandy 1000A so I was a IBM PC Clone person and still am today.

I'm a costume designer and illustrator. Mostly worked in event entertainment costumes in New York - styling, altering, making things from scratch, dressing and undressing people backstage, etc. Moved out of New York and am now trying to take it a little slow and focus on illustration work, but I find myself trying to start a small business... 🤷🏻‍♀️
