Hi everyone, say Hi to Otto! We adopted him this past week and I thought it would be fun to ask you all, what do you think about his cross? (Thanks to @Petra for asking about it)

He looks mainly like a Poodle, we're sure about that. But there's a heated debate among my family and friends as to wether he's fully a medium size Poodle or he's got some Labrador in him, or something else.

What are your votes? Mandatory pictures below😊

Further info: He's about 45cm tall and 65cm long. Please take into account that there's likely human measuring error involved lol I did my best with him laying down. He's napping🥰

He is absolutely stunning. Definitely not full poodle. Is he hypoallergenic like a poodle?

My first reaction (to your original photo) was Wheaten Terrier. With the new pictures I am going back to that. Does he have noticeably soft and silky hair?

See the pic below. The dog has longer hair but note the coat, the colour, the eyes and the shape of the head etc...

Here's another one. Also compare the tail. Again, this one has longer hair.

Andrea That would be Wheaten Terrier height, I assume he isn't old? I would not be the least bit surprised if he was a purebred Wheaten Terrier, aka Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.

    It all fits.

Petra Not hypoallergenic lol there have been many trips to the pharmacy (not for me though)

The coat is not really silky soft but that face is spot on!

Andrea - He can't be a full poodle if he isn't hypoallergenic. I think you've got a Wheaten. Super dogs.

Petra Definetely not full poodle. Another clue to that is his paws, they've got like a good mass to them? They're thicker than you would expect. Like I feel like a poodle's would be idk daintyer/thinner

Alsatians (GS?) is what we used to keep.

          Smart and loyal.

Had street dogs in my college days: Sir Maxwell and Madam Curie ( not named by me).

We got a genetic test on our dog, something I swore I would never do, because people kept asking us what she is. We had our thoughts and we were completely wrong but once we got the test it was a lot easier to see.

This is her not being very lady like but a good view of all of her.

Mark She's beautiful, but you've left us curious to know what breed she is 🤔

              She's beautiful

She is and she knows it. She is also a huge (both figuratively and physically) baby. She pretty much melts into any person she meets unless they have a ballcap, sunglasses, and some kind of mullet. We joke she is an emotional support dog in that she needs a lot of emotional support.

50% Rottweiler, 27% Alaskan Malamute, 23% Siberian Husky

We thought she was some kind of German Shephard or a Burmese Mountain Dog

Mark Oh she's gorgeous! Otto will do that as well if he's laying down you start talking to him and up he paw goes showing off what he ain't got😂

How did you go about getting a genetic test? If it expensive? It's not really a need at all but it could be fun to find out.

Andrea We used Embark (https://embarkvet.com/) and I don't remember what it cost, want to say like $100. They send you out a swab and you just swab their cheek much like I imagine you do for 21 and me or whatever.

Even though I did it, it was largely my idea, I think it is a stupid way to spend money. But it was interesting to see and they do provide a lot of analysis about health (none of which I really believe). They do give you a list or "relatives" and send the occasional email about a close "relative" but the highest she has is like 30% which I think I would not be surprised to find out is just slightly higher than any other random dog.

But I can't argue the matches. Her tail is spot on Malamute feather duster, her coloring is almost perfectly rott but the fur is definitely some cold weather dog (and there is a lot of it, I could send you some if you like). She has a table she goes and lays on and it was covered in ice for about a week (not to mention lows in the negatives) and she would just lay on the pile of snow and ice.
