Ravi Does Upwork even consider that the bad feedback might be unfair?

I think the main thing to bear in mind is that it applies to everybody, making it entirely fair. We're all in the same boat. It's true that somebody could get unlucky with a bad client for the first letter, but it's much harder to use that argument if one triggers it again within 6 months,

The more I think about this the more I think I like it even if I do trigger the letter occasionally.

Thinning out the herd would be great.
But jumping at a single bad feedback is excessive.
One quick scan of the profiles and the history of freelancers is all it would take to thin out the herd.

Ravi But jumping at a single bad feedback is excessive.

But it isn't doing that. It takes TWO bad outcomes to trigger the temporary ban. Not one.

Nowhere in the letter does it say the freelancer's ability to send proposals has been blocked.

      Not sure.
In the case I am referring to, the freelancer did not mention that, only that he'd had a string a good feedbacks.
Do you mean two bad ones all togther or after some specific date?
As the forums are closed, there is no way to go back and check.

        Ravi

It takes one bad outcome to trigger the email. The email is just that. An email. Nothing to get all excited about.

It takes more than one in a short period of time to trigger the further sanctions.

A string of good feedback" can be 5 for small jobs, and most clients give 5 stars and 10s in private by default anyway.

NOTHING happens after one poor outcome other than an email.

        What do you mean?

        Ravi

Not sure where I got two bad outcomes from to be honest. but the letter in my OP makes it clear the freelancer's ability to send proposals has not been rescinded yet. Just that they 'may' block their ability to take on new projects if they see a trend.

I know that part is a little vague, but it's clear that no such action had been taken yet.

Ravi They don't "consider" anything. If feedback meets parameters, an automated message goes out.

I got one such email after problematic and undecided client ended the contract abruptly. Truth be told, they paid last milestone but then just straight abused me verbally and when I said I would not tolerate this and where do we go with this contract, they closed it, sent me negative feedback and then requested refund lol which I refused of course (and they stopped requesting immediately).
I don't like being treated like a kid, alas, most people measure others with their own insecurities. Such emails without checking facts are straight abuse.

It is absolutely not realistic for Upwork to investigate every poor outcome.
I can't for the life of me see how that email is "abuse". That's insulting to anyone who has ever really suffered abuse.

Have you even read it? "Abuse"?

          Drama much?

Petra I remember your passive-aggressive comments on old UW forum, I'll take the liberty of not getting into discussions with you on this subject. You have no idea who I am and if I ever suffered from abuse so don't tell me if I can use this word or not.
Overcorrectness and "I am always right" much? Looks like.

              [deleted] > your passive-aggressive comments

LOL, that's the first time anyone has ever called me passive-aggressive but fine 🤣

[deleted] It's a fair bet that if you'd suffered abuse you would know the difference between that and an auto-generated email accurately reporting that you received negative feedback.

I'm lookin forward to when I get mine. It's gonna happen. lol

TopRatedTroll I had mine when I fired a client I should never have taken on and KNEW I should not have taken on last autumn. I rolled my eyes and moved on, entirely without clutching my pearls and wailing "abuse" online...
