Petra I came to Malta in 2014, intending to stay for 3-6 months. So after 10 years, I decided it was about to leave. Haha! But mainly it was because my boyfriend (who's a chef), wanted to leave as Malta has gotten really expensive, while salaries haven't gone up since 2016. So we decided we'd like to live somewhere on the mainland in Europe, and Prague seemed like a good idea, considering the cost of living and the fact that it's so central in Europe that it's easy to travel anywhere.
But when we got there, the job he'd gotten wasn't so great. 12-hour shifts, and he didn't get paid what he was promised, and that kind of stuff. Add to that renting an apartment is really expensive if you want a high standard, and that all parks and public places were just filled with alcoholics and drug addicts using any bush in sight as a toilet. So I didn't feel safe walking my dog at night and that kind of stuff. And when during one week we first found that someone had shot a nail through the car tyre, and then later someone broke into the car, then we just had enough. So we decided to flee before the winter set in. For which I'm very grateful now. Haven't seen snow in 10 years, and I'm aiming to keep that streak going for another 10.
