I don't know exactly what this guy is all about but this was on my LinkedIn feed and I found it quite uplifting and wanted to share with the group. "To all the freelancers and micro-agency folks out there: keep doing your thing. Seriously. The big agencies might look impressive from the outside, but trust me, they're not nearly as scrappy as you.
Case in point: I recently got invited to quietly sit in on a Discovery Meeting run by a large full-service agency. I was just there to observe, but wow. It was... something.
First, they had like 8 people on their side join the call. Most of them didn’t say a single word. They just sat there like silent Zoom statues. I kept wondering if their mics were broken or if they were just practicing the ancient art of “looking like a big agency.”
Then came the questions. So vague. Sure, they asked about goals, KPIs, and tossed in a few “tell us about your target audience” type things. But that was it. No digging into tech stack, specific tactics, ROI expectations, campaigns, or what resources the client actually had.
But the real kicker? When the client asked, “What are your strengths as an agency?” Their big, confident answer was... “We’re full-service.” That’s it. As if saying "we do everything" magically means "we're great at the very specific things you need."
No case studies. No wins. No actual proof they’re good at anything beyond existing. Just a vague “we do it all,” like a diner menu with 400 items and zero good ones.
So if you’re a freelancer or running a tiny but mighty team, don’t sweat the big guys too much. You’re faster, sharper, and way more plugged in."
