I work in the field of Linux Systems, DevOps, and Cloud, I see that Upwork has 5 different specialised profiles that mostly intersect with each others in skillsets.

  1. Systems Administration
  2. DevOps Engineering
  3. Systems Engineering
  4. Cloud Engineering
  5. Solution Architecture

If you work in this field, you must know these require mostly same skills with a narrow difference margin.
They are not totally too different jobs like Database Administration and Video editing for example.

Would you agree that Upwork needs to increase the maximum number of Specialized Profiles.

No, I think tw plus the general one is enough.

Having more just dilutes everything and clients aren't primarily looking at Jack of all Trades freelancers, they tend to want specialists who do the one thing they do really well.

I have seen a lot of jobs that can accurately fall under 3 of the 5 categories I have mentioned, categories can be used to filter in Talent search, so clients and freelancers might miss each others for not having matching terms that describe more or less same speciality

NourEddine Y. As long as the skill tags are there and it's mentioned in the text I don't see the issue.

Personally, I used to wish they would allow a couple more specialized profiles. I even wrote a forum post, asking them to put it into the suggestion box (that they don't have).

I think about it less now, but if they did I'd use 'em. Just like I write targeted job proposals, I'd like a little more targeting in the profile I link a proposal to.

I'd be quite happy at 5.

(TBH, I don't know why they care—if people do use them wantonly and don't get any jobs from them, what difference to Upwork?)
