I updated it on Christmas eve and I think it's waiting to get verified by an actual human. Not sure how long I will wait until reaching out for this to get resolved. Maybe I'll wait a week since I know we're in the holiday season. They suspended my financial account so I can't take funds out but I can still log hours as usual. It's kind of worrisome they automatically suspended my financial account 😟

I received it after initiating conversation about DAC7 and asked when UW will report it to my tax administration. There was something about locking me out of withdrawals but I was able to withdraw without issues the very hour I received the email. It's insulting in fact. They are incapable of giving me any date, despite my country having strict rules as to when I should receive it, they also have no idea what in fact I asked about so I had to reiterate the questions so that five-year-old could understand it (they finally responded to two out of three, yay! not funny in fact T_T). Somehow my VAT ID is still invalid, after two years of trying to update it. I see this whole EU directive in general as very harmful and in fact aimed at restricting even more to people who just try to survive (I earned less than 5k USD last year, that is from all sources I have, it's THAT difficult). Upwork happily jumping the bandwagon of restrictions, but they fail to grasp specific EU country's rules, even though they operate within its borders so I haven't the slightest idea what to do. My tax institution, for that matter, has no idea how to treat foreign income to this day lol so I'm preparing for either huge fee because surely I fail to report taxes if no one cares to provide me with real report, or, long visit to jail if I get so tired that I simply f*** it all and just don't touch it.

I don't know how it is in your EU country but in mine I have to report my income based on my accounting books. Since you have a VAT ID I assume you are operating as a company (business entity) rather than a natural person. Therefore you probably have an accountant who will keep track of all the income and outcome of your company - just like I have. The accountant will report to your local taxing agency your annual income, will compute how much tax your company should pay to the government and then you will have to pay the tax. I don't know your local laws but in my country I have to pay 3 types of tax:

  1. 20% VAT on top of the Upwork fees (commission)
  2. 10% of the annual income of my company (or 10% of the salary/bonus if I pay myself a salary)
  3. 5% of the company profit if I decide to pay myself a divident (this is not the same as salary)

None of these require or need the information from DAC7, the latter is only a courtesy from Upwork side about what they will report to my country as my income. I don't need DAC7 to report my tax duties and my tax agency does not ask me to provide DAC7 - they only need invoices.
